Description
Meropenem
- Active against both Gram +ve &-ve bacteria.
- Penetrates well into most body fluids and tissue incl. CSF.
Tazobactam
- Has potent inhibitor activity against class A B-Lactanases Including some B-lactamases that are resistant to inactivation by Clavulanic acid & sulbactam and also against OXA-2 and OXA-5 enzymes.
- Broadens the spectrum of ceftriaxone by making it effective against organisms that express B-lactamase and would normally degrade it.
EDTA
- Modes of action of EDTA is to potentiate the antibiotics by a disruption of the lipopolysaccharide structure in the outer membrane of Gram-negative bacteria
- The MIC value of the combination for Mero-EDTA was reported to be 50% less than that of Meropenem is sensitive isolates.
